Jovica & Savka Bacvanski

Jovica Bacvanski moved from Novi Sad, Serbia, to Podgorica, Montenegro, with his wife, Savka, and children, Jovan (5) and Aleksandar (2) following a call from God. Jovica had not wanted to go to Podgorica, favouring Bosnia, but as he preached in Podgorica each weekend his heart was captured and he knew he had to move there.

Jovica reports: “I faced lots of opposition from the Orthodox Church. Not directly from them, but they do their best to make a picture of us, that we are a dangerous sect, so neighbours tell children not to mix with us. Children were throwing stones at my children. If you are not Orthodox, you are an enemy of the country”.

‘By distributing humanitarian aid supplied by Eurovangelism to these very people who were persecuting us, people began to realise the Church was one that helped. Those one-time enemies now come to the Church and today there are about 60 regular attendees plus about 20 children!”

Jovica runs children and youth ministries. He is currently training to run an Alpha course and is also planning a larger outreach in Montenegro to try and provide for the great need of the people.

How You Can Help

- $35 will buy one Bible.
- $165 will buy 5 Bibles.
- $125 will pay towards food for the Alpha course (actual cost not known as number of guests not known).
- $350 per month will pay the salary of a co-worker.

Facts:
  • Montenegro is fiercely independent and resents its ties to Serbia.
  • There are only three evangelical churches in all of Montenegro, and less than 100 believers.
  • Jovica says: “We need evangelists and workers; our people know nothing about God or the Bible – there is a great need”.
  • State social care is poor.
  • Activities include: Alpha, humanitarian aid, and youth and children’s ministries.
  • Challenges include: lack of resources, lack of evangelists and opposition from the state.
Prayer Requests:
  • Pray that people will come to realise that Christianity is not a dangerous sect.
  • Pray for more workers, evangelists and supporters.
  • Pray for the provision of literature – Bibles are in very short supply.
