Greg & Jelena Sivulka

Greg and Jelena Sivulka attended the Novi Sad Christian Fellowship in Serbia until they felt called by God to plant a new church in the town of Temerin. They moved to Temerin, where with hard work and prayer, the church grew from nothing to about 50 believers! They decided to pass this church over for another pastor to lead, and began to pray about where to go next.

They moved to Sombor with their children, Benjamin (9), Sara (4) and Hana (3 months), and invited a couple for dinner where they formed a friendship and eventually told them about Jesus. Maca, the wife, became the first believer and she gave Greg and Jelena a list of friends who would welcome a visit and help in the form of a food parcel.

People began to turn to Christ and met in Greg and Jelena's small living room for Bible Study. As the church grew, their mother church in Novi Sad provided funds to buy a building for their meetings.

Today, there are about 30 adults and 20 children who regularly attend church meetings. Because of the growing need and the continual outreach to members of the community, Maca has now been employed as a full-time co-worker.

- $12,500 will buy a minivan to transport people to and from the church meetings and for distributing aid.
- $42,000 will pay for much needed renovations to the church building.
Facts:
  • Evangelical Christians make up only 1.4% of the total population.
  • Serbia is officially an Eastern Orthodox country and all who aren’t Orthodox are considered to be enemies of the state.
  • Many people live in poverty following 45 years of communism and 13 years of despotism.
  • Activities include: distribution of aid, English clubs, Alpha and prison visiting.
  • Challenges include: building the trust of the community and developing the gifts of the congregation.
Prayer Requests:
  • Pray against the stubborn mentality of the people who consider evangelical Christians to be a sect.
  • Pray for more helpers within the church.
  • Pray for faith, love, wisdom and boldness for the team as they witness in the community.
