Traian & Elena Pascalau

Traian and Elena Pascalau live in Constanta, Romania, with their children Iudita (6) and Cristian (5). When their church had the vision to start a new church in another area of the city, Traian and Elena felt called to take up the challenge. They formed a team of 10 young people to help - all of whom had a heart for the challenge, though no experience.

The church started in 2001 with 21 people and they spent the first year going out each week evangelising, but as people came to the church, there weren't enough leaders to take care of them. Training days for leaders have since started and are held four times a year. Today there are 70 people in the church.

Traian and Elena run two Alpha courses each year as well as kids clubs each summer. They also distribute humanitarian aid for the many poor people in the community, using the opportunity to preach the Gospel. Traian was so appalled by the terrible poverty amongst the elderly that he raised funds to start the "Heart to Heart" Day Centre for the elderly as well as home visits to those who can't get out.

Traian and Elena have the vision to set up weekly kids clubs; a youth project to attract the younger generation; and a school for praise and worship. All this would become reality if support and funding were made available. They would also appreciate leaders training and teams to help with evangelism.

How You Can Help

There are no secured funds for the day centre:
- $125 per week will pay for rent for the day centre.
- $175 per week can feed 15 elderly people.
- $50 per week will help provide medicine for those who can't afford to buy their own.
Facts:
  • State control over the church in Romania is oppressive and a proposed bill on religious freedom has been withdrawn.
  • Only 15 religious groups are officially recognised, but many are still persecuted by the Orthodox Church.
  • Constanta has a population of more than half a million, with less than 1,000 born-again Christians.
  • Activities include: Kids Clubs, Alpha, distribution of aid, and a day centre for the elderly.
  • Challenges include: no regular financial support, lack of leaders, little religious freedom.

Prayer Requests:
  • Pray for the many outreach projects - that those in the community will benefit practically and spiritually.
  • Pray for leaders to help in the Church.
  • Pray for current and future Alpha courses.
